Daytime running lights not working: what fails
Modern DRLs are LED strips, boards or light guides built into the headlight. There is often no bulb to change.
- One DRL is dark while the other side works
- Part of the strip is out, or the light flickers
- A DRL or light failure message on the dash
- The light comes on only sometimes, often after rain
Behind these symptoms are failed LEDs, a faulty driver board, a corroded connection or moisture inside the housing.
DRL turning yellow is a fault, not a style
A white DRL that now glows yellow or uneven usually points to failing LEDs or a light guide that has discolored inside the headlight. That is a repair job.
If your DRL turns amber only while you signal, that is a switchback design and it is normal.
DRL light repair or a new headlight
On many models the DRL is not sold on its own, so the parts counter answer is a complete new headlight. Repair fixes the LED board, driver or light guide and keeps the original headlight on your car.

Can I just replace the DRL bulb myself?
If your car has a separate DRL bulb, yes, and you do not need to ship anything. If the DRL is an LED strip sealed inside the headlight, the headlight has to be opened.
Do I ship one headlight or both?
Only the one with the fault. If both DRLs have failed, you can send both in the same request.
