Signs the reflector is the problem
The reflector is the mirror-like bowl behind the bulb that shapes the beam. When its coating fails, the light goes with it.

- Silver coating that peels or flakes off
- A dull, gray bowl instead of a bright one
- A dim or patchy beam, even with a new bulb

- Water sitting inside the headlight for months
- Age and years of heat cycles
Wiping or rubbing the reflector strips more of its thin coating, so leave it alone until it has been looked at.

It depends on how far the damage goes and how the headlight is built. Tell us about the damage and we'll confirm whether it can be repaired.
The most useful photos are the reflector through the lens with the light off, the beam on a wall with the light on, and the back of the headlight.
