HID headlight not working: check the simple causes first
- A xenon bulb near the end of its life often turns pink or purple, flickers, or goes out after a few minutes
- Swap the bulbs from side to side. If the fault moves with the bulb, the bulb is the problem
- If it stays on the same side, the ballast, the igniter or the wiring is next
Xenon systems run at high voltage. Leave these checks to a mechanic if you are not sure.
When you do not need to ship the headlight
A worn bulb, or a ballast bolted under the headlight, can be replaced at any local shop. We do not sell bulbs or ballasts.
For a fault like that, shipping a headlight makes no sense. Send photos anyway if you are not sure, and your quote will tell you where the fault is.
HID headlight repair inside the housing
Other xenon faults can only be reached by opening the headlight:
- Igniters built into the housing
- The shutter that switches bi-xenon projectors between low and high beam
- Hazy projector lenses or damaged inner parts
- Moisture and a cracked outer lens
HID ballast repair and built-in parts
On some headlights the ballast or igniter is built in and is not sold separately. That is where headlight ballast repair inside the housing is worth it.

Yes, ship it complete, as it came off the car, so the whole system can be checked together.
Do you convert halogen headlights to HID or LED?
No. We only repair the original xenon headlight; we do not do conversions.
