Peterbilt 389 headlight: low beam out

A low beam out on a 389 is often a bulb, a wire or a corroded plug rather than the headlight. A "Low beam bulb fault" message can come from any of them, so have a truck shop check those first.

If the wiring tests fine and the factory sealed headlight still stays dark, send photos of it lit and of its label. The checks are laid out in Headlight Not Working? Bulb, Wiring or the Headlight Itself.

Peterbilt 579 headlight: dim or dark LED

When an LED section of a 579 headlight dims, flickers or goes out and the plug is clean, the fault is likely inside the sealed housing. Tell us the symptom and we'll confirm whether the LED or DRL module can be repaired.

Factory headlight or an aftermarket LED set

We repair factory headlights only. If your Peterbilt runs an aftermarket chrome LED set, LED bulbs or load resistors, the shop that installed them is the place to start.

Other Peterbilt models with a factory headlight can be sent too; your quote confirms what can be repaired.

A cracked lens on a 389

A rock strike can crack the outer lens and let water in. For a Peterbilt 389 headlight lens replacement, a new outer lens goes on your original housing and is sealed again. Tell us what happened to the lens and we will confirm whether the outer lens can be replaced on your headlight.

A hazy lens gets the same answer: polishing strips its factory coating and the haze comes back. Details in Headlight Lens Replacement Service.

Owner-operator and fleet pricing

Keeping the factory headlight keeps its fit on the fender or hood and the look of the original pair. Fleets get a written quote per headlight, with trade terms set in that quote.

How it works for companies: Headlight Repair for Fleets, Trucking and Rental Companies. Other heavy trucks: Semi Truck Headlight Repair.

If your model year has an open recall or an extended warranty from the manufacturer, check with your dealer first.

For the other semi and pickup makes, start at Truck Headlight Repair.

Questions from Peterbilt owners

Can you fix a 389 headlight that only has a bad bulb?

A bulb is a quick swap at any truck shop, so there is no need to ship the headlight for that. Send it when the problem looks to be inside the factory unit.

Does a chrome 389 headlight count as factory?

If it is the headlight the truck came with, yes. A chrome aftermarket LED set is not, and we don't work on those.
