Frost and condensation on the inside of a full-size pickup LED headlight lens on a cold morning

Tundra headlight condensation and frost inside the lens

Fog or frost inside the headlight can show up after a wash or a cold night. You may be told a little moisture is normal. Water that stays, or keeps coming back, means the headlight seal is leaking, and water sitting on the LED boards can make the headlight fail.

The repair dries the unit, reseals it and checks the LEDs, as in Headlight Condensation Repair & Resealing.

Headlight System Malfunction on the dash

This warning often shows up after the moisture: an LED or its circuit inside the headlight has quit. Check the fuse and the connector first. If those are fine, the fault is in the headlight.

The fix is the one in LED Headlight Repair, done on your Tundra LED headlight. Tell us the symptom and we'll confirm whether the LED or DRL module can be repaired.

Tundra DRL went out

A daytime running light dark on one side, even with a clear lens, is a fault inside the housing. Daytime running light faults on every make are in DRL Repair (Daytime Running Lights).

2022-and-newer Tundra: warranty first, then repair

If your model year has an open recall or an extended warranty from the manufacturer, check with your dealer first.

  • Some extended service plans leave lighting out, so read yours.
  • Out of warranty, or told the moisture is normal? Ship it in.
  • Older trucks: send photos first.

Repairing the original Tundra headlight

A Toyota Tundra headlight replacement has to match your grade and lighting package. Repairing the original keeps the factory fit and a matching pair.

Tundra owner questions

Will a silica pack fix the moisture?

A desiccant pack can soak up some moisture, but it does not stop a leaking seal. The water comes back until the headlight is resealed.

Can I keep driving with the Headlight System Malfunction warning?

Check that both headlights still light. One out cuts what you see at night and can get you a fix-it ticket.
